Brooklyn
The walkway on Brooklyn Valley Road has been extended and improved in recent years, to create a steep but surprisingly rewarding walk up to a lookout over Motueka and Tasman Bay. Together with the grassy area of the reserve, it thus provides a good place for a workout both for owner and dog.
The walk comprises a main track which starts from the pull-off beside the reserve, and runs along the base of the hill before turning right and zig-zagging up the slope to the lookout. This gives good views across the large areas of netted apple orchards and hopfields to Motueka and the coastline beyond. While the easiest return is via the same route, several smaller paths branch off the main track, and any of these can be selected to create a loop walk. Note, though, that some of these take a rather simple approach to getting downhill - namely, to go straight down. So be prepared for a bit of a scramble in places. Near the bopttom of the hill, there is also a secondary path that loops aver a bridge into the grassy reserve, and this provides another variation for the walk if desired.
