Description |
The 23 km or so of the Hutt River Trail provide a long and easy walk that you're unlikely ever to want to do all in one go, but which you can easily dip into according to need and mood. Because of the proximity of the highway, it's rarely a totally peaceful trail, and in some places it passes through some far from beautiful industrial areas. But it's almost always interesting, and when you're by the river it's possible to block out the traffic noise and imagine yourself in the countryside, and - in Upper Hutt at least - there's grass where your dog can run free. It's a model our other cities ought to follow. Although the trail is long and linear, it's also a loop track because throughout its length sister tracks run more-or-less parallel to it, on one side of the highway, and one side of the river, or the other. |
