Access |
Numerous access options. A good starting point is the parking area beside the Pioneer Women's memorial, where the Bridle Way crosses Summit Road (about 3km west of the junction with Mount Pleasant Road). But if you want to start at the bottom of the hill and walk up, so that the last leg is downhill, there's a small parking area at the beginning of Major Hornbrook track, on Ross Terrace. |
Description |
The Port Hills north of Lyttleton offer a wide range of loop walks, centering on the rocky ridges and summit of Mount Pleasant. A good option, starting at the memorial, is to follow the Bridle Track down into Lyttleton, and then - after appropriate refreshment - climb back up to the ridge via the Major Hornbrook Track. Or you can do this circuit in reverse. Alternatively, for a shorter walk, make a loop along the various crater rim tracks. But there are many, many other options: all you need is a map, and a free day - and the dog! |
