From north of Bannockburn, take Cairnmore Road along south side of Lake Dunstan; becomes Cornish Point Road, and track starts ca. 1 km later at junction with Pidgeon Rock Road. Alternatively, to walk northwards, start from Hawksburn Road, ca 2 km west of junction with Earnscleugh Road. |
Description |
From Cornish Point Road (200 m altitude) the track climbs steadily to a restored musterer’s hut. Traversing the tussock tops (1,114 m altitude) of the Cairnmuir Mountains offers views of the Remarkables and Lake Dunstan before a steep descent to Hawksburn Road. This is an exposed, isolated alpine environment. Closed for lambing 15 Oct - 15 Nov. |
