Description |
This section of the Great Taste Trail is mainly close to SH6 - but beggars (i.e. dog-walkers) can't be too choosy. And it does include some pleasant stretches through roadside reserves. Quite how far you're allowed to walk with your dog, however, is open to debate. The dozen pages of by-law about the trail terminate the dog-friendly section at the junction with North/Valley Road, but beyond there, for the most part, it's still an open, roadside path and there are no signs so that seems unlikely. And that remains true all the way to the Flat Rock cafe at Kohatu (a great place for a bit of refreshment, by the way). And from my experience, there are no signs or restrictions either if you keep going to Tapawera, which turns it into a really decent 11 km walk and gives you access to the lovely and estensive village green . . . So use your judgement on this one. |
