Take the Paremata exit off SH1 (Transmission Gully) then turn right at the roundabout onto Paekakariki Hill Road. After 500 metres, turn left onto Grays Road; car park is on the left. The dog-friendly path follows the road edge for the first 500 metres then once outside the reserve veers off into the saltmarsh. |
Description |
This gentle walk runs through an area of saltmarsh and coastal scrub nestled in the corner of Te Awarua-o-Porirua Harbour. To the immediate south is an area of larger and richer saltmarsh (Pauatahanui Reserve), which is strictly non-dog. But even here, in the fringes of the marsh, the birdlife is vibrant, and the subtle colours of the saltnarsh vegetation can be appreciated. To preserve both vegetation and birdlife, howev er, stay on the path and keep the dog on a leash. |
