Access |
Lots of access points. The recommended place is the i-site in Methven, on Main Street (SH67), from where you can obtain a map. If you want to avoid the road sections and just do a there-and-back walk, then you might want to start at the start of the wooded section, about 1 km north along Barkers Road. |
Description |
A varied and surprisingly interesting walk that has been constructed largely by the local commmunity, led by the Methven Lions. There's a long section on the straight and somewhat unrelenting Rangitata Diversion Canal (used to feed the ravenous irrigation of the Canterbury Plains), which is pleasantly balanced by the more intimate tree-lined sections (including 'The Enchanted Forest) and some country lanes. It's work still under way, with the intention being that it will grow to 12.5 km in length by the time it's finished. |
