Description |
Kaikohe Regional Park offers a number of dog-friendly walks of varying grades and length. Starting from Waterworks Road, an easyish option is the Pakuratahi River Walk from the lower area of the campsite (beginning at the footbridge). From this, there are two potential loop walks, either a short anticlockwise circuit (2 km) using Swingbridge Track (and returning via the road), or clockwise using the more challenging Norbert Creek Loop tracks (4 km). There's also a branch off this loop giving a 4 km there-and-back diversion over the ridge and down into Phillips Stream. Ridge Walk offers a longer, 7.5 km walk westwards to the Twin Lake Road entrance, where there's a further loop walk of ca. 3.5 km using the Kaitoke Hill and Pylon Loop tracks. All of these walks take you through lovely native bush, including beech, fern trees, rimu and rata. |
