Take Redwood Road rowards Rabbit Island, off SH60 and park in the gravel area where the Great Taste Trail heads off across the saltmarsh. |
Description |
The main part of this walk is a short stroll along a stopbank, overlooking the saltmarsh at the mouth of the Waimea River. To start with, this is on the Great Taste Trail, but where the stopbank and trail turns sharp right, dog-walkers (and horses) stay on the stopbank, while cyclists are relegated below. After another 400 metres or so, the Great Taste Trail crosses the stopbank and heads east again, where dogs are banned. However, dog-walkers can continue straight on, down onto Cotterell Road. Shaded by oak trees and passing between green fields, this country lane provides a most pleasant extension to the walk. |
