To travel south, start in Clyde, on SH8 near the junction with Springvale Road. To travel north, start in Middlemarch, at the rail head. Numerous other access points along the trail, especially in Alexandra, Omakau and Ranfurly. |
Description |
Despite what it says on some of the DoC signs, the Central Otago Rail Trail is now dog-friendly, as the official map and guide make clear. It provides a 5-10 day walk through wonderful country between Alexandra and Middlemarch. Track quality varies, and rather too much is asphalt or gravel, but there are some wonderful sections, and most of it is easy going. |
