Take Ashburton Gorge Road from Lake Somers settlement; after 23km turn onto Hakatere Heron Road, and continue to Jacobs Stream bridge; car park on right. Alternatively park in the carpark where the Te Aroroa trail crosses Ashburton Gorge Road.
Description
A range of walks, from an hour and a half climb to Manuka Hut to a multi-day hike to Glenrock Stream. For a relatively short and easy there-and-back walk, start from Jacobs Stream Bridge and follow the track past Lake Emily then east for another 1 km, and turn left up to Manuka Hut (total distance ca. 4 km each way).  Alternatively, starting on Ashburton Gorge Road, head north to Lake Emily (about 15 km each way). For the full experience, take the Manuka Hut track and keep walking: it's another 40 km to Glenrock Stream!
