Various access points, but the easiest parking is probably at the north end of the lake. To access it, take the gravel entrance road beside the lake, on Arrowtown-Lake Hayes Road, about 200 metres beyond the northern lake end. |
Description |
This walk is flat and easy and for most of its way wanders between trees and across grassy fields as it circumnavigates the placid stretch of Lake Hayes. The lake is also home to a range of wetland birds, including a large population of Australian Crested Grebe. It's a popular walk (and cycleway) so you won't be alone, but there are good views of the mountains and the walk is long enough and interesting enough to keep you entertained for a couple of hours at least. |
