There are several access points to this walk, scattered along the Wairau. From the west on SH63, you can start from about 200 metres east of the bridge over the Waihöpai River, 7km from Renwick. Parking here is possible on an old road section just north of the state highway. For access to the middle section of the path, start at the main river bridge on SH6 just north of Renwick, from which there is a slip road that takes you down into a small parking area. To access the eastern end of the path, take Giffords Road off Rapaura Road, and start at the end - though note that parking here is limited. |
Description |
This is an easy riverside walk along the stopbank of the Wairau River, between the Waihöpai River in the west and Giffords Road (roughly half way between Renwick and Blenheim) in the east. In places the track can be rather drab and messy, mainly thanks to the rutting caused by the louts in 4WDs who always seem intent on trashing places like this, but it still has its pleasures. |
