Access	Just north of Haast, take Jackson Bay Road off SH6; continue for ca 32 km to the outskirts of Jackson Bay; walk starts on left. DoC permit required; contact local DoC office.
Description	After a steep climb to an old road, walking is relatively easy for 2 km or so; beyond the Smoothwater River, however, it's a back-country route requiring good fitness and navigation skills. To ensure that you catch the tide for the beach sections, it may be best to do the walk clockwise.
