Description |
Rameka Creek Road is a narrow, winding and poorly maintained road that winds up beside its namesake. The road itself is dog-friendly, and there is an adjacent cycleway which seems to be dog-friendly, too. Both can be followed for about 6 km to the boundary of the Abel Tasman National Park; beyond there, dogs are definitely off limits. The cycleway can be a bit of an unnerving place to walk at times, because bikjes tend to come hurtling down the hill. If that puts you off, use the road instead; this offers a pleasant walk in an area where dog-walks aren't as plentiful as they might be. After about 5 km, the road dips down and crosses Rameka Creek, and splits. Left is the easier walking and takes you along Rameka Creek; right, the road winds its way up and over a ridge, then skirts round the southern flank of the hill until it becomes Rameka Track. Soon after that you meet the Park boundary and the limit for dogs. |
