DescriptionThere's a wide range of dog-walks available in Kaimanawa Forest including some challenging full-day and two-day hikes in some remote areas. Three or four routes of variable length start out from the ends of Kaimanawa Road and Tree Trunk Gully Road, in the west of the forest. Another couple can be found at the end of Kiko Road, a little further north: one shortish loop walk (about 4 km) and another there-and-back walk of 9 km each way. Both can be done together, giving a return walk of about 20 km. Like other walks in the Kaimanawa Forest, a permit is needed to take a dog; this can be obtained free of charge from the DoC office in Turangi.
