DescriptionOnce upon a time, this was a good place to take the dog. It offered a network of informal paths through meadow and bush, and access to a small beach where trees overhung the harbour. Then someone decided it needed improving! The Auckland planners and architects and safety experts and others moved in, and the place was transformed. The informal paths were taken away and replaced by Proper Tracks with Nice Gravel Surfaces. Some were redesigned for mountain bikers; others covered with bark or sand for horses; yet others graded so that buggies could go along them. A dedicated dog exercise area was specified. And a large cafe and visitor centre or whatever-it's-meant-to-be was built on the top of the hill.
The consequence is that now it's a rather boring, half-urbanised place with an ugly clutter of paths and little sense of countryside. If you're in the area, you might want to try it out. As for me, I'll give it a miss and find somewhere else... |
